Looking for a fun science project to do while you’re stuck at home? Then why not try making a fizzy lava lamp.
All you will need is:
- a jar or container (why not reuse a finished jar from the kitchen)
- sunflower oil
- water
- food colouring (any colour you want)
- bicarbonate of soda
- a torch (you could use the light from a phone)
Here’s how to make one.
Instructions
- Open the jar and pour the sunflower oil into the jar to about halfway
- Add some drops of food colouring into the oil
- Top it up with water
- Switch on your torch and put it behind the jar
- Put in a spoonful of bicarbonate of soda and put the lid back on
- Watch your lava lamp fizz!
We recommend making sure your lid is on super tight because no one wants to make a big mess.
Want to make it more fun, use different colours in different containers or why not try adding glitter!
