What is Valentine’s Day?

Valentine’s day is on the 14th of February. It is known to be an old Roman Festival.

Valentine’s day is all about love and a time to show your true feelings to others. People express their love by making them Valentines cards, giving them flowers, writing poetry and chocolate.

St Valentine

The tradition of Valentine’s day started in Roman times when Saint Valentine was a priest. Emperor Claudius had banned marriage because he thought a married man was a bad soldier. St Valentine wasn’t happy so he arranged marriages in secret. When Claudius found out he sentenced him to death. While Valentine was in prison he fell in love with the jailor’s daughter and before he was killed, he sent her a card which at the bottom was signed from your Valentine.
