On the 6th December, 5P went to the Roald Dahl Museum in Great Missenden, Buckinghamshire. It was a very exciting trip, as we had been reading Charlie and the Chocolate Factory in class.
When we arrived at the museum, we first walked through the gates from the film of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory! They were huge gates, which made us excited about going in.
The museum was very interesting because we learnt about different parts of his life and learnt how he became an author. In the museum, we went into the ‘Boy Room’, which told us some information about his school life. To get in we had to walk through a door, which looked and smelt like real, creamy chocolate!
We also saw how he wrote his books. He had a special writing hut at the bottom of his garden and he would write in it every day.
Whilst we were in the museum, we learnt that Roald Dahl spent a lot of time editing his books. He changed many of the names of his books after he wrote them. Did you know that Matilda was originally called ‘The Miracle Child’?
After the museum, we walked up to the local church and we looked at his grave, which had the BFG footprints nearby. We then took a stroll down into the village where he lived. We learnt that he got a lot of inspiration from the village. It was amazing to see where Roald Dahl imagined the BFG walking to the orphanage. We also saw the library where he imagined Matilda reading every day.
We really enjoyed our trip and would recommend it to anyone to find out more about Roald Dahl.
