10 minutes with Mark Lambert

We spoke to the pro, Mark Lambert from the team Harlequins about his career in rugby and his opinion on the Rugby World Cup .

What has been the highlight of you rugby career so far?

I’ve been really lucky because I’ve been playing for a really long time this is my 17th year. We won the primer ship in 2012. My highlight is when we played in Toulouse against a really famous team in France and no one expected us to win that was really special because when people think you cant do some think and you do it , it feels really good

Why should children play rugby?

It builds really good habits of being active and looking after yourself and being healthy. Rugby teaches you really good lessons about working as part of a team and learning that the team are more important that you are as an individual. It teaches discipline and hardwork. Also respecting referees and teachers.

Which teams are ones to watch in the Ruby World Cup?

Hopefully one of the most significant things about this world cup will be is the fact it will be in a new rugby country. It’s the first RWC in Asia and Japan have not traditionally been a been a really big team in the sport. So I think that will be a really big deal and hopefully Japan will do really well. I hope it will help spread the game around the world.

Who do you think will win the RWC?

There are lots of different teams that could win. Not all of them could win,but there are probably 4 or 5 teams that can win. New Zealand would be my favourite. They are the team to beat but I think England have got a really good chance. South Africa and Australia are always strong but I would go for England.

Any tips for children who want to play rugby?

My advice for any child that wants to play any sport is that you have to enjoy it. If you don’t enjoy something you wont want to keep doing it. The other thing is always listen to your coaches, teachers and the people who are trying to teach you new schools

When you were younger why did chose to play rugby?

I played any sport I could. I played all sports. I did lots of swimming, played lots of football and cricket. The sport I loved the most was cricket so have enjoyed watching England win that World Cup. Then because I’m quite big partly because of what I had for dinner and then also because of my genes so I got quite big when I was a teenager. From about 16 Rugby became the thing I was best at. I never thought I would be a professional but thought I would give it a go and I have been lucky enough to do it for sixteen years.

Has Mark Lambert inspired you to play rugby if yes tell us why in the comments below. What would you like to ask the pro rugby player who we interviewed?
