From Tokyo to Twickenham

This week the blogging team and the school council met with two teachers from the British School in Tokyo to discuss the upcoming Rugby World Cup and Olympics, which will be taking place in Japan.

We were able to speak to headteacher, Mr Christian and  project manager, Miss Campbell  about life in Japan, why they are excited for the sporting events.

Firstly, to mark the occasion a tree planting ceremony took place. You can see the new Cherry Tree, the national tree of Japan, in the playground. Let us know if you see it

We were then excited to ask our visitors some questions and find out more about life in Japan. So here is what we found out…

What is your favourite Olympic sport?

Mr Christian:   I’m  big rugby fan and they have now introduced Rugby Sevens so I really love that as team sport. Otherwise, I enjoy athletics 100 m, 400 m and the relay.

Miss Campbell:  I do karate, so I’m excited that in Tokyo 2020 karate will be in the Olympics for the first time.

Do you have a favourite rugby player?

Mr Christian: I have had lots over the years although obviously at the moment you have Owen Farrell. There is also the captain of Japan, Micheal Leach, who scored that famous try against South Africa in 2015.

Miss Campbell: I don’t have a favourite player although I do have a favourite team. It has to be Japan because they are a very multi-cultural team.

How is Japan different to England?

Mr Christian: Tokyo’s   technology   is   much   more   convenient   and   futuristic (such as robot cafés)  than   England’s technology. Outside of Tokyo, villages aren’t so technical and in some places they still use fax machines. But the best thing is that the trains are never late!

We were very excited and happy about working with the British School in Tokyo and can’t wait to learn more about Japan.
