International Museum Day is on the 18th of May and while you’re at home, here are a few facts about it.
International Museum Day is organised by The International Council of Museums (ICOM) and is a chance for museum staff to meet members of the public and explain how museums work and how to continue making them fun and enjoyable.
Unfortunately, this year the museums are closed due to Covid 19. Luckily, there are lots of activities for you to do at home that are lots of fun!
- Visit the Musical Instrument Museum for a virtual listening tour. Go on a listening tour of featured instruments found at the only museum dedicated to global instruments.
- Use Google Arts & Culture to go on a virtual visit to one of the world’s most famous museums. Choose from The Louvre in Paris, The Frick Collection in New York, or The British Museum in London.
- Take a virtual self-guided tour of the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History. This museum is dedicated to inspiring curiosity, discovery, and learning about the natural world.
- Create a museum in your home. Set aside one room or area in your house to display your creations.
