On 8th May it will have been 75 years since WWII ended in 1945. VE Day stands for Victory in Europe Day. At the time people took to the streets to celebrate peace time but in lockdown we sadly can’t do that. Street parties have been cancelled but here are a few things you can do to celebrate the occasion:
- At 11am a two minute silence will be held to remember the losses
- Listen to the Queen’s speech at 9pm, the same time her father did 75 years ago
- Learn the Lindy hop – a war time dance that originated in America
- Join in a national sign along at 9pm of We’ll Meet Again
- Cook something from the year 1945 like steamed chocolate pudding or toad in the hole (with sausages not toads!)
I hope you have a wonderful VE Day and remember everyone we lost.
Let us know how you are celebrating in the comments below.
