Synagogue Trip – Chestnut Class Y2

On Friday 28th February Year 2 visited the Richmond Synagogue.

We travelled there by train, and then walked from the train station to the Synagogue. When we arrived, synagogue helper talked to us about the star of David, the Torah, the Yad, the Ark and the eternal light. It’s called the eternal light because it is always on!

We also heard about some of the festivals Jewish people celebrate and some of the stories from their religion. We got to taste some Challah bread and grape juice which is eaten and drunk at Shabbat. Shabbat is the Jewish day of rest which happens from sundown on Friday to sundown on Saturday.

Jemima: “At school, I made my own Torah and Yad. The Yad is for pointing at the words while they read.”
