On Friday the first of February the six nations, a special rugby tournament which six teams are in, has now begun.
The six nations is a special rugby tournament which has six teams: England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, France and Italy. These European teams play several matches to find out who is the best. It’s held every year and many people enjoy watching it on their televisions.
However, it’s only been the six nations since the year 2000. Before that Italy wasn’t included and so the 5 nations started in 1910. Even longer before that with only the British teams England, Wales, Ireland and Scotland was the home nations which started in 1883.
The winner of the six nations gets the champions trophy. The last team to win was Ireland last year. If a team wins all of their matches they get the prize called the grand slam.
