Over the last two weeks, we have enjoyed Year 6 cycling proficiency. Every child in the year group had a chance to ride their bike to school and have lessons with trained instructors. It was great fun and lots of us feel more confident about controlling our bikes and ensuring that we are safe when we are on the road.
During this time, we have learnt:
- How to do a U –turn
- How to ride safely on roads
- How to indicate
- How to get ready to push off
- How to overtake parked cars
- How and when to change gears
- How to check your bike before setting off
- How to do the ABCD check
- How to cross T-junctions
- B-position(helps you to control your bike)
- How to look both ways
It will help us in the future because now we know how to control a bike on the road and interact with traffic and other road users. We also had to work as a team and help keep each other safe during our lessons.
We interviewed some of the children and this is what they said:
Lacey – “ I thought it was amazing

Issy “ I thought it was good and was a good experience and I really liked it because it taught me a lot of things”.
Samaira “It taught me lots of skills and top tips”
Divya “I thought it was really fun going on roads making U –turns.”
Carolyn “I thought it was a great experience to learn how to ride bikes on the roads.”
